5-Day Training On Application Of Geosynthetics In Road Infra

Hyderabad: A 5-day training course on the application of geosynthetics in road infrastructure Projects, jointly organised by CSIR - Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) and National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India, in association with VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering and Technology (VNRVJIET), has been inaugurated at VNRVJIET.
Speaking at the event, the chief guest Prof Manoranjan Parida said that Hyderabad has been excelling not just in IT but also in infrastructure. Mentioning that the 73-year-old CRRI and 90-year-old IRC have been contributing significantly in making India’s roads the second largest road network in the world, he revealed that this training programme marks the beginning of a long-term collaboration between VNRVJIET and CRRI, with a joint conference and internships at CRRI in the pipeline.
Referring to the theme of the training programme, Prof Parida pointed that geosynthetics are important yet expensive novel materials and participants must know when to use and when not to use the wide class of these materials and learn about IRC’s various existing and 40 new codes adding this year. Guest of Honour, Dr P S Prasad, said that this is the fourth training programme being conducted with about 120 participants from industry and academia, and wished that it leads to better road safety and infrastructure using right standards and advanced technologies.
